Got a question for the mower gurus. I have a JD JS48 self propelled, electric start mower that I used for years. Anyway, I had gas in it and it would not start. Drained the gas as it had gotten old, and gave the mower a shot of starting fluid. Mower fired right up and ran for a minute or so until I shut it off.

Could there be a problem with the carb preventing it from running on gas? I hate to put more gas in it if I am just going ti have to drain it again.

Clogged jets in the carb will keep fuel from flowing into the engine.
Lets say the jets are fine.
Is there a valve with electrical wire going to it attached to the bottom of the carburetor?

That is a shut off valve and those will get stuck and not allow fuel to flow into the jet/jets.

Mine has done that in the past and i took a can of carb cleaner with the plastic tube on it and blowed into every hole i could find on the carb without taking it off and then started it and run fine, my biggest problam is water getting in the bowl during the winter time with it sitting outside on my trailor and have to run carb cleaner thru it every spring to get the moisture out.

When my kids were about 4th grade they wanted to ride the 2 stroke scooter.
I showed them how to take the carb off and clean it with torch tip cleaners and carb cleaner spray can.

Every year that yamaha would need the slow speed jet reamed and blown out.
Kids asked if they could ride it after a year and I said if you can get it running you can ride it.

They told me they needed to take the carburetor apart and clean it again.
I said go ahead but do not spray that stuff in your eyes.

They said why would we do that?
I said just don't do it.

Oldest came in and went to the bathroom sink and washing his face off and said I sprayed it in one hole and it came out another and got in my eyes.

Yea what did I tell you.
Burns don't it.
Yea but I only got a little in my eye.

So @RickN do not get any carb cleaner in your eyes.
If 10 year old kids can do it you can too.

I warned you.

You assume alot

Now this could be taken 2 different ways.
10 year old can get a carb built.
Or 10 year old can spray carb cleaner in his eye.

:)
Rick can surely pull off one of the above.
