The two primary shotguns that keep showing up are the mossy and the remi 870, which do you fellas prefer?

I heard the remington is a tad bit more refined but the price difference isnt worth the extra 1% you get. for those who have handled both what is your opinion?

Rem 870 or a Mossy 500, 590 is all you need.

This is mine:

That makes my wrist hurt just looking at it! How bad is that to shoot?

Talk to some of the instructors from TDSA or USSA, there are better options than a shotgun for a home defense situation. A shotgun offers massive stopping power with the correct loads but is not what I would want to maneuver thru doorways etc going room to room.

Don't keep us in suspense...what are the better options?

I've owned 2 Remington 870's a, Mossberg 500, a 590, and a Mossberg Maverick.
My favorite was the Mossberg 590 with the Mossberg Maverick coming in 2nd the only one I still have is the Maverick with wood furniture and a 6 round side saddle.

I really didn't care for the 870's cause I couldn't get them to run right. Both of the 870's I owned constantly locked up to the point where I would have to slam the buttstock on the ground to get the pump to cycle another round.

I like the 870 better mainly because the Mossberg rattles too much to me. Most sound like there is somethng loose inside. If I were trying to sneak through my house, I'd worry that the Mossy might clank at some unfortunate time. So basically fit and finish. I wouldn't hesitate to grab either if I needed one though.

I've actually shot an even smaller version. I was very pleasantly surprised. Just don't try to hold it near your face to aim. It move quite a bit, but if you hold it right it is basically a rocking motion. If you've ever fired a shotgun from your hip, it is similar to that. Still I wouldn't recommend one for home defense. Not enough control and to many things that could go wrong (like smacking yourself in the face).

Sounds like you got ones with a rough chamber. I had one like that. Call a Remington service center and have them fix it. Mine runs great afterward.

They've both been sold already but even if I did still have em I'd be a little pissed having to send them back to get them to run right.
With a name like Remington, it should run right straight from the box. At least that's my thoughts on it.

I've never had a single problem out of any of the Mossbergs I've owned so I've stayed away from the 870's.

I completely understand. Although you don't have to send them "back". There are at least a couple of service centers here in OK. Sports World is where I had mine cleaned up.
