Back when I still lived in OK, my GF and I were eating at a Mazzio's in OKC. A guy came in and sat down right next to us and started asking for money and saying he was hungry. After I'd had enough, I told him I'd buy him anything he wanted off the menu. He declined, and I heard him mumble under his breath "Just trying to get me a couple beers" or something to that effect. He eventually got up and left and my GF and I just shook our heads.

Yep. Poor side of the lake ... ;) One of these days we are gonna upgrade and make it into one of those really nice trailer parks over there ...:clap3:

Never realized you were so close. I live on 16th & MacArthur sadly in those apartments right there. I guess you could say I live on the rich side of the ghetto complex since I'm in a townhouse and not an actual apartment LMAO! :screwy:

If you go down 10th far enough there is actually a pretty nice trailer park down there :p me and the wife were thinking about moving there for a while until we decided we didn't want to rebuild every tornado season.

Im sure this would have ended up in a request for money.

Last night I took my wife to Logans on 71st for her birthday. We met my parents there. We park on the east side.

As we are walking on the sidewalk a couple approaches us with the guy saying "excuse me sir, excuse me, I need to speak with you". I tell him we dont have time, so he simply steps in front of us and starts saying "Oh, I like that shirt, do you have kids? We are from Stillwater and have grandkids and..."

This was making no sense at all so I said "look, we are meeting somebody, we need to go" and literally had to shoulder our way past this idiot. It was almost impossible from the start to try and maintain any distance. I had already decided if anything should start to happen, my only option would to have been to hit him as hard as I could just to buy a little time.

Once we were past him, he was not happy...he says "in a hurry? I was gonna be fast damn you..."

I watched him after that...an SUV with an older couple pulled in and I could hear the couple say something along the lines of "Yeah, try them" as they were pointing at the SUV and heading towards it before it ever finished parking.

Once we went in, we told the employee at the front that there were people harassing customers in the parking lot...dont know if they took care of it or if the couple got bored...either way they were gone when we finished dinner.

These people are getting pushier by the day and they have a really nasty habit of stepping right in your personal space and staying there.

Don't hold that against all Stillwater folks, please. I got panhandled by a guy driving a Masaerati....MASAERATI!!!!! I told him I'd give him a $100 for the car.....if he took plastic.

I do not like people gettin' in my space. Walmart at I/40 & Macarthur is the worst. Somebody is gonna get hurt.

I've gotten to the point where I will tell them as they approach, "That's close enough, whaddya want?" I hate that they use the 1st amendment as an excuse for panhandling. How is it protected speech if they are lying to get money? Sounds like fraud to me.

Been there, done that!! I like my little bitty house ... mostly for its location. Seems like the lake is just in the right spot to deflect storms. Everybody to the north, south, east and west of us has had new roofs put on after one or another storm in the last 10 years, but there are 4 houses right in the middle of our block that always dodge the bullet ... I don't think I will ever sell this house ...

Didn't want to read through the whole thing, but there are people making rounds at houses and vehicles. They ask about kids, family, dogs, etc. If they knock your door, they will try to push their way in and scope the place out. They look for TV's, etc... If they scope your car, they tend to want to follow you home and will scope you out from there.

Its happened to two people I know and also I was with a friend (female) at her apt when it happened. There were two guys that were extremely pushy and I got to the point of warning them I was armed and reached for my gun and they turned and sprinted off.

Called the police and informed them what up and they said they were aware of alot of this going on.

I will try to be generous when I can and if I feel it appropriate. But, I once had a guy approach me in my truck at a drive thru asking for money for something to eat. I told him if he would tell me what he wanted I would gladly purchase it for him with my order. Told me i didn't need to do that if I just had a buck or two to spare. I told him I would be glad to buy him something and then he told me he was just gonna be honest that he wanted a drink. I told him i would feed him but I would not feed his addiction.

You did the right thing. The only homeless guy I've ever given money to was a guy in Alaska who used to hold signs like "Why lie? I want some beer" and "Looking for hot young blonde rich woman". The truth pays.

I can't believe no one has suggested the most obvious solution to deal with this kind of problem. Simply put, tell the person approaching that you are going to give them "one to the hip." It worked for Tanner. It will work for you. Duh!
