The Cholla Jumps

Jared Loughner is a product of Sheriff Dupnik’s office

with 28 comments

This is the report that Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik has been dreading since the tragic event on Saturday January 8.

The sheriff has been editorializing and politicizing the event since he took the podium to report on the incident. His blaming of radio personalities and bloggers is a pre-emptive strike because Mr. Dupnik knows this tragedy lays at his feet and his office. Six people died on his watch and he could have prevented it. He needs to step up and start apologizing to the families of the victims instead of spinning this event to serve his own political agenda.

Jared Loughner, pronounced by the Sheriff as Lock-ner, saying it was the Polish pronunciation. Of course he meant Scott or Irish but that isn’t the point. The point is he and his office have had previous contact with the alleged assailant in the past and that is how he knows how to pronounce the name.

Jared Loughner has been making death threats by phone to many people in Pima County including staff of Pima Community College, radio personalities and local bloggers. When Pima County Sheriff’s Office was informed, his deputies assured the victims that he was being well managed by the mental health system. It was also suggested that further pressing of charges would be unnecessary and probably cause more problems than it solved as Jared Loughner has a family member that works for Pima County. Amy Loughner is a Natural Resource specialist for the Pima County Parks and Recreation. My sympathies and my heart goes out to her and the rest of Mr. Loughner’s family. This tragedy must be tearing them up inside wondering if they had done the right things in trying to manage Jared’s obvious mental instability.

Every victim of his threats previously must also be wondering if this tragedy could have been prevented if they had been more aggressive in pursuing charges against Mr. Loughner. Perhaps with a felony conviction he would never have been able to lawfully by the Glock 9mm Model 19 that he used to strike down the lives of six people and decimate 14 more.

This was not an act of politics. This was an act of a mentally disturbed young man hell bent on getting his 15 minutes of infamy. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department was aware of his violent nature and they failed to act appropriately. This tragedy leads right back to Sherriff Dupnik and all the spin in the world is not going to change that fact.

LOL, hell its all politicians fault then. You take a over-bearing government & push a few loose nuts too far & **** happens. There are more people out there, weather weak minded or not, that firmly believe in the original plans for America & those people are the ones that seem to be willing to go to extremes.

I've said it before & I'll say it again. Between the mistrust of people VS government now days & the fear so many Americans have of being stripped of their rights, I believe we will in our lifetime see a second revolution unless things up top change more for the people like it should be & not so much for lining of political pockets.

From another website:

** Obama: “They Bring a Knife…We Bring a Gun”

** Obama to His Followers: “Get in Their Faces!”

** Obama on ACORN Mobs: “I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!”

** Obama to His Mercenary Army: “Hit Back Twice As Hard”

** Obama on the private sector: “We talk to these folks… so I know whose ass to kick.“

** Obama to voters: Republican victory would mean “hand to hand combat”

** Obama to lib supporters: “It’s time to Fight for it.”

** Obama to Latino supporters: “Punish your enemies.”

** Obama to democrats: “I’m itching for a fight.”

I just needed to reiterate the hypocrisies of the left. - BUMP!

Let's keep all parties arguing with each other about the small stuff (like this) so no one will have time come up with a solution for our country's problems.

Seriously, Dems and Repubs disgust me (the parties in general). I have no love for the tea party either, seems like the same crap coming from them. I haven't seen a political party yet put the country's needs ahead of their own. Sad, disgusting mess we've created.

Before the Civil War, Senators were beating each other's faces in on the Senate floor.

This is politics, not a game show. Personal insults and lampooning are not only acceptable, but necessary. These are people who hold our future, and often our very lives at stake.

Forget hyperbole and metaphor, this is serious business, if threats of violence are a problem for you then you should have picked a less dangerous career.

You mean, government should be held accountable by the people?

That's a very strange and rare idea.

I think government people should be able to hold our livelihood, our health and our freedoms in the balance with immunity from consequence.

Government is the most high authority on earth because they are nearest to perfection.

Everyone should know this by now.

The only thing on this list is remotely comparable to the quotes JB mentioned is "They bring a knife, we bring a gun."

"It's time to fight for it." compared to "Don't retreat... reload!"

“I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!” compared to "Second amendment solutions."

Which ones suggest you should shoot your opponents?

Oh.. and ... look at this phrasing: "to His Followers," "ACORN Mobs," "His Mercenary Army." That's some pretty damn fine rhetoric in and of itself right there.

Why in the hell is everything political now? Can't someone just be bat$hit crazy? Everyone has to jump on the bandwagon. We're going to have to have a damn mental evaluation to buy guns, ammo, magazines after this lunatic commited this horrible crime. This is something that concerns all of us in the shooting community. So why are we quibbling over "vitriol", political affiliation or the other bull$h!t that is being put forth by the media and people trying to gain a political advantage out of a very disturbing event?

Stand together and acknowledge that this guy is nuts and needs to be punished for his actions, nothing more , nothing less.

For your consideration...

I'm sure Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., meant well when he told CNN's Candy Crowley that when it comes to correlating the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., and nearly 20 others with the recent violent rhetoric of certain political factions and figures, "I don't think you can ever make the direct connection."

We have done so before, though. In the 1990s, it was commonplace for politicians of both parties to chastise rappers like Ice-T and rockers like Marilyn Manson for the violent imagery and lyrical content that politicians felt they promoted and link them to the violent acts of others.

Why not now?

Perhaps Durbin's reluctance to finger-point stems from his own past political gaffes, but the rest of us needn't be coy about which political group has been invoking most of the violent imagery and language lately.

While we still don't know the motivations of 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner, Giffords' 75-year-old father was quite clear about where the allegiances of a sizable share of his daughter's enemies lie.

"Yeah, the whole tea party," a tearful Spencer Giffords said bluntly.

Sure, unnecessary rhetoric in politics applies to people of every political persuasion, but the most vitriolic and the most incendiary comes from the tea party.

It could very well be coincidental that Giffords just happened to be one of the 20 House Democrats Sarah Palin placed on her "target list." But by using crosshair images to show each targeted politician's district and telling her supporters via Twitter, "Don't Retreat, Instead -- RELOAD!," she unnecessarily employed imagery and expressions that indirectly glorified violence.

A Palin aid called it "obscene" and "appalling" to blame the ex-Alaskan governor for the shooting. That doesn't change the fact that it was sophomoric and flat-out irresponsible of her to play around with the words and images she used. No wonder Palin has since removed the map from her website.

Palin apologists argue that military terminology has been used for ages. Repetition does not make something acceptable, nor does it make it any less connected.

The shooter may have been mentally ill, as is suggested, but the likes of Loughner do not draw their obsessions with violence out of thin air. They draw their vocabulary and imagery from culture, and in the current political culture, Palin and her tea party brethren are the ones dangerously fanning the flames.

It is House tea party caucus leader Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., asking supporters to rally against the "gangster government."

It is Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, saying, "Thomas Jefferson said the tree of liberty will be fed by the blood of tyrants and patriots. You are the modern-day patriots."

It is Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, declaring, "Let's beat that other side to a pulp. Let's take them out, let's chase them down."

It is Rep. Wally Herger, R-Calif., telling a self-identified "right-wing terrorist," "Amen. God bless you. There's a great American."

Sponsored LinksIt is former tea party Senate hopeful Sharron Angle discussing "Second Amendment remedies" to settle differences between her ilk and Congress.

We cannot allow them to hide behind hyperbole and metaphor. They must be compelled to stand behind their words.

If there is proved to be no relation between the tea party and Loughner, fine. But there is nevertheless a growing danger in this country. A danger former President Bill Clinton warned about last year when noting the increased threats against President Barack Obama and members of Congress.

If politicians' words incite hatred, glorify violence and pander to the weak-minded, then they are a part of the problem -- and they need to be held accountable.

Considered and summarily dismissed. Tell us who spouted this drivel JB, cause they deserve full credit for attempting to quell 1st Amendment rights. Perhaps they're warming themselves in front of a toasty fire made of books?

Anyone who thinks the recent poilitical rhetoric of the right caused this nutbag to kill innocent people can march right on back to namby-pamby land, cause they're way too sensitive to be engaged in politics or listen to the news.

Someone get JB a lollypop, STAT! :rolleyes2
