I'm gonna be doing some 300WSM reloading and was curious now that H4350 is available again (but only in 1# bottles) along with Varget in both one and eight pound bottles which would you choose. Forget about how much reloading I'm doing I am only wondering which powder you prefer and if it isn't too much to ask, why?

Between those 2 I would choose H4350.
But i would get at least 8 bottles so you have a chance of getting all the same lot number.

I had 3 different lot numbers of varget and they all shot different in .308 and 30-06.
One thing I noticed in my .223, .243. .308 and 30-06 with varget is when I had a great load for 17° temps if the temp went to 55° the groups opened up. then get to 75° they opened up again so for me I really grew a dislike for varget.
It does work great if you have loads for the same temps.

They say it is temp stable but that revolves around velocity change. How about group size?
I switched all those to IMR 4064, H4895 and H 4350 and my group sizes do not change.

I had nearly 30 lbs of varget at one time because it was hyped up so much.
Down to a tick over 8 lbs now.

Maybe I have bad luck with it.. Maybe the newer stuff is better but too fast for that WSM in my opinion.
I get more velocity in my .308 with IMR 4064 than Varget.
I would trade my 8 lbs of Varget in a heart beat for 4064.
My opinion only.

Both those powders work in magnums if need be but they are better for the nonmagnum crowd 308, 260, 6.5, 30-06, etc.
There are better powders for your magnum. Figure out what you want it to do, what projo(s) you want to use, and go from there.

If you have to go buy one of those because it's there and you just have to, get H4350.

I used my remaining Varget to burn off some 175's in my M5 that wouldn't group for me. Almost 250 rounds in with 6 different bullets, Varget and my 20" 1-10 remain legally separated while IMR 4064 and a 168 grain ELDM are on a 2 year honey moon from 20° to 90° without a noticeable change at 550.

Cabela's has 4064 in stock as of a few hours ago.
It's the powder of choice for GMM 308; can't be beat for a 308.
I wouldn't use either for a magnum round though.
