You haven't driven until you've been on I-5 (or any major artery) going into or out of greater Los Angeles. Don't have to go out there much these days, but for several years I was out there at least 2-3 times a year. They drive like maniacs, but they actually use their signals - to merge into a 1-1/2 car length space between your car and the vehicle in front of you, all while doing 75-80 mph. I was scared out of my wits first time I drove on those freeways; but soon came to actually enjoy it in a twisted way - it's like all the drivers on those freeways know what you're doing, or about to do, and you know what they're doing. Unlike in Oklahoma, in CA you never see bluehairs with handicap parking permits swinging from the rearview driving 25 in the left lane; or teenagers texting on the phone; or somebody reading the newspaper while drifting between lanes - because if they did, they'd be killed off. I called it survival of the fittest - the herd of drivers out there thin out their own weak stock, leaving only the truly capable drivers on the freeways. Every day in Oklahoma I see at least a dozen idiots who would die within the first 3 minutes on "the 5" in LA.
