@NightShade my original plan was to weld a nut on the outside as you suggest. But I realized I'd have to make a bigger hole in the bench, notch the hole or weld the nuts on after the sockets were installed in the bench.

@MacFromOK the problem I see with the bolt going into the inner tube is then I have to line things up to install. As it is now, I can just shove it in and tighten "set bolt" without looking under bench.
Not what I meant. I meant mount/weld the nut in the outer tubing, just have a little poke thru to take up slack and allow more clearance on the outside.

It would still be a simple clamp-in to install.

My thought was that with the downstroke on the press, the forward lower edge of the mounting square tube will act as a fulcrum, causing the inserted portion of the "hitch" to swing up.

Maybe I'm not envisioning the set up correctly, but it would seem to me that the up/down bolt will be taking axial loading.

I agree that side to side fitment isn't critical, just "cosmetic". And a set bolt will take it up just fine.

What about a toggle clamp for the side tension bolt?

Your thinking of the leverage and fulcrum point is accurate. The top set bolt will be pushing down on the inner tube on the end opposite the press. I'll try to get atleast one press mounting plate built this evening and mock the whole deal up in vice.

Ok. Got one mocked up. Firstly, I'm aware the face plate isn't square to the 2x6. I just hacked a squarish hole in this scrap 2x6 so y'all could get a visual of what I'm doing. I will probably make a backer plate to sandwich the 2x6. There is zero play/slack when I push or pull up, down, left or right. That's with the two setbolts hand tight. Comments and suggestions welcomed.
Also, welds aren't as pretty today. Wind would start whipping thru the shop as soon as I'd strike up but it's too hot to roll the doors down. That's my excuse anyhow.

It's coming together pretty nice. I had this Pecan bedroom suite thing that my cousin sold my brother and then my brother dumped it in my ol storage shed before he split for Tx. It's my reloading and ammo storage place now.
