The GOP DOESN'T WANT RP to stand a chance at all of beating Obama.

Fixed it for you. It's a very simple fact. The GOP doesn't want RP in charge because he will not support their continued pillage of the economy and the country. The news doesn't want RP because he will not support their continued dumbing down of the populace and interventionism in the political process. The GOP wants Romney because they foolishly believe he's the most likely to beat Obama, and more accurately believe he won't upset their apple cart. The media wants Romney because he's the most like Obama.

We will have Romney and Obama to choose from because the GOP "leadership" and Big Media want it that way. Anyone who thinks otherwise is trying to fool themselves. It has absolutely nothing to do with the wishes of the people. :disappoin

If I was within arms reach you'd be getting a pat on the back. I haven't read truer words in quite a while.

You are 2/3rds right. The GOP elite and the MSM do not want him for the reasons you have given, but the majority of the people do not want him either. That is why in closed primaries and scientific polls he almost never gets above 10%. Sure there is the odd poll but the majority of them have RP pulling 10 to 11% and that is it. Outside of those odd polls the only time RP does decent is when his supporters can stack the deck, just like they claim the deck is stacked by everyone else.

Does the GOP elite play dirty against RP, yes they do, but they also do against Newt and Santorum because they have picked Romney as the one they want. Heck they think Santorum is as bad as they thought Reagan was back before he won the nomination, and while Reagan was far from perfect he turned out to be the best thing to happen to the GOP in decades.

RP's problem is that they do not trust him because he left the party then came back, they do not agree with many of his liberal ideas, and they know that the majority of Republicans will not support him because of those ideas.

If they've been wrong so many times before, what makes them so right now? The GOP party hacks are worse than weather forecasters. How they could get things wrong so many times and still have a job is beyond me. :(
