I have a couple Ruger No. 1's that belonged to my Brother. I guess its going on three years now since we lost him. I kinda just tossed them in the back of the safe and didn't think about shooting them. Took them out the other day to wipe them down and was thinking about taking them to the range.

One is a 25-06 and the other is a .223. Both are older rifles with the red butt pad and both have the heavy varmint barrel's.

What would be a good factory load for the .223 seeing how I don't reload?

As for the .223, I would call Ruger with the serial number and find out what the twist is on the rifling first. This will help determine the best load.

Those #1's are fine rifles, Sad they come by your loss, but a heck of a pass down and a good one to remember him by. Definately keepers.
