Shipping a long gun

Quick question:

Posted a shotgun for sale, got contacted from an out of state buyer. He has asked about shipping it to his FFL. Do I have to send FROM an FFL to a FFL or can it go from me to his FFL?

My understanding is I can ship personally, to his FFL, and be "good to go"

You need to contact the receiving FFL and see if they will accept shipment from an individual. Apparently some don't.

Above is correct. Not required by ATF, but some FFL's refuse shipments from individuals.

If he does accept, you will need to send a copy of your DL with the gun.

Sounds good, I responded and asked him for his FFL's information. I'll talk to the FFL and move forward from there.

I have to figure out payment stuff too without being screwed around. Its the Golden Quail..so there's a few dollars on the line.

Just for curiosity, why would someone NOT accept from an individual to an FFL? Is there a real reason, or just their arbitrary policy?

Arbitrary policy. I'd guess that it's just risk mitigation on the part of the FFL; if it's coming from another dealer, it's less likely that the ATF will come knocking on their door about it.

FWIW, it has been almost 20 years since I shipped a gun, but when I did, all I needed was a copy of the receiving dealer's FFL. And to find a UPS employee who understood the actual shipping policies; the first one tried to tell me that only dealers could ship guns...

I shipped my Sig back to Sig from a FedEx here without issue...I assume I will just use the same place for a shotgun.
Lots of silly logistics, I hope this guy isnt a tire kicker.

In my case, the UPS employee was an actual UPS employee. This was back when they had a shipping depot at Max Westheimer airport in Norman.
