Voting NO on 780/781. Sheriffs are against it as all of the "cost savings" the state will receive but still keep and the counties will have to house. The county jails are already overcrowded as it is and that will cost the county tax payer even more.

I am shocked a the rationale that is being given in this site in why the alcohol bill should not be passed. Don't give me that bullsh!t that liquor stores can't survive in states where you can get good beer and wine in a grocery store. We are in the minority here and liquor stores all around the country still thrive. Step up your game and compete on product knowledge and service. instead you try to force people into your stores with mafia-esc laws. Lets say I'm a single mom or dad and I want some wine with diner and I have a young kid, can't take them into a liquor store, so I'm supposed to do without?

The bigger problem to me is who the hell is the government to tell me where I can buy my wine and good beer? I should have the freedom to choose.

"I fear that too many people don't understand SQ 780. If you read it you get no clue that heroin, meth, PCP and cocaine will become misdemeanor drugs. You get no... clue that drug free zones around schools and parks will be abolished. You get no clue that a person can get caught with these drugs fifty times and it will still be a misdemeanor. If you find these to be unacceptable, then talk to your friends and family, because it is not going to be easy to beat a SQ that has over three million dollars put behind it by out of state ACLU of New York."

Quote from Chris Ross, Pontatoc County DA. Also voting no.

I think we've(probably) already decided who we are going to vote for in local and national elections, but what about the several important state questions coming on the ballot?

State Questions in plain English(slideshow)

How do you guys feel about these questions?

I'll probably say No to the death penalty, No to the agriculture. I'm not sure about SQ 779. It does make sure that none of the money raised goes to superintendents or such, but a one percent hike on the sales tax is pretty huge. especially if you live in OKC where the sales tax rate is already like ~8-9%.

I'll probably vote yes on 780 and 781, to help lower the nonviolent offenders in Oklahoma jails. Yes on 792 and no 790.

I also recommend you check the ratings of people running for office in Oklahoma with the NRA here:

Should we also be locking up people addicted to gambling, porn, nicotine?

The state locks people that are addicted to gambling that supplement their losses by embezzlement from their employer, and porn addicts get locked up trying to live out their fantasy's.
If you don't want to do the time, don't do the crime. Goes with drugs, driving, porn or anything else.
Its amazing how many people are NOT in prison, and do NOT have a criminal record by not violating those laws. Its pretty simple actually to understand that.

His issue is that his county/office will loose money in fines, etc. The "drug free" Bull crap around schools and parks, etc was designed to be able to stack charges for more money/fines.
Its all about the money is why the county/local offices are against it. Confiscated drug money and assets fund their offices.
I'm not a drug user, never had a joint in my life, but I can recognize why they want to keep 780 on the books, and its not right.

I believe the main objections to 792 are with the sweeping changes it will cause to distribution. I don't think anyone really objects to refrigeration or allowing beer and wine in grocery.
