Aside from some minor detours in hyperbole what dutchwrangler said was pretty much right on.

Not surprising that yet once again Koshinn - you just plain missed the point.

Look Mr. Werewolf, you don't know me and I certainly don't know you. You may think that from one thread that you do, but you don't. I don't want to derail this thread too much, but I find online pissing matches extremely juvenile. The OP's son shows more maturity.

LOL at this thread. I'm surprised I haven't been told the illogical line of "Love it or leave it" yet. :)

I don't hate America. I don't love it. It's just a place where I live. I choose Oklahoma because I like the weather and the people. It's nowhere near any of my family yet it's home and has been for the past 31 years.

To me, what matters is Liberty. In the course of my life and my job I've rarely met someone in person who comprehends Liberty. Many speak of freedom without delving deeper into what being free actually means. Many are willing to let government action slide without question so long as they can go about their comfortable routines. Many are complacent. Most want government to provide everything instead of being responsible for themselves. They want to be taken care of because they are emotionally weak. They want a government uncle.

So Uncle Sugar takes care of them. And Liberty becomes the casualty of that relationship. And as Uncle Sugar grows larger and more overbearing, it eventually becomes abusive. And mistreats his wards. And doesn't bother with vaseline. And Liberty fades into a concept that few comprehend. They wrap themselves in a flag. They mindlessly repeat pledges written by a socialist to a flag. They don't question. They accept. It makes them comfortable.

Last weekend while having a few brews at my favorite watering hole I became engaged in conversation with a really nice gentleman. The conversation moved towards government. He talked about how government needs to do this, do that, take care of this, take care of that. I listened. Then he asked me what I thought. I smiled. I asked him if he had a copy of the Declaration of Independence in his house. No he replied. I asked if he had a copy of the US Constitution in his house. No he replied. I asked if he had a copy of the Articles of Confederation in his house. Blank stare and then a no. I asked if he had copies of the Federalist Papers? The Anti-Federalist Papers? Common Sense? Democracy in America by Tocqueville? Or Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith? The Communist Manifesto? Atlas Shrugged? He looked at me as though I had two heads. I asked him if he had ever even read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. No he admitted.

I sipped my beer and stated it would be better if we just drank beer and talk about cars or women. We did that. The beer was good.

I'm serious. Sure, it gets a bit warm for a month or two. But it's better than six literal months of winter that is common from where I'm from. I notice you're down in Altus so maybe that's the difference whereas I'm up in the OKC area.

Sad. I have a pocket DoI and Constitution that I used to keep in my backpack at school, because people would inevitably say something like "well, the Constitution says suchandsuch..." and then I could say "show me". "Well... er.. duh... I thought it did!"

Need to get the rest of those books for myself. Dad had a bunch of them and I'd read them, but don't have my own copy. Thanks for making me feel like a crappy patriot!
