Going to be in Phoenix, Scottsdale area for a week while the wife is attending some medical CE. Anyone have ideas on things I should go see or do other than sit by the pool all day? Going next week.

I spent a bit of time out there on my last job.

Take a drive/hike into the South Mountain Park...it's the largest municipal owned park in the country. Great view of the whole Phoenix area from the top of some of the peaks!

If you are a beer drinker, there is a cool micro-brewery just north of the airport called Phoenix Ale Company. It has a small tasting room, frequently manned by the owner George, with a view of the brewing/bottling room. There's usually a food truck out in the parking lot too...

Somewhere east of town there is a huge flea market (several acres of tents) full of inexpensive mexican arts/crafts and other stuff.

There is an open air mall in Tempe that is pretty nice, I think Bass pro is right next to it. Cabella's is not too far either. Papago park could be interesting later in the day when it cools down a bit, maybe hit the zoo or the preserve if you are interested -- could be good early in the day too. Didn't have a lot of time to really explore when I was out there but my step daughter is over by 12th and Maryland but was living closer to the airport when we were visiting. If you are wanting to waste a lot of time looking at computer parts and that type of thing find a Fry's and look around. . . and bring me back something good, lol.

Any cool gun related stuff? Neat ranges? Checked into going to Gunsite and taking a class but nothing being held while out there. Would have been a 2hr drive one way but that would have been cool. Yes might have to check out parks.

How far of a drive is the Grand Canyon?

There is a gun range at highway 17 and carefree highway, just a little west of 17. Was just out there last week. Good golf west on carefree highway about 25 miles. It's called Quintero golf.
