Too late for food plot?

Hate to admit it but I never got around to putting my wheat seed out on a new lease this year for one reason or another. Has anyone ever planted around opening day of the season? I usually do mine first to middle of September, but won’t be able to get out to the land until Oct 1.

You’re not too late. Due to lack of rain, I didn’t plant here in east Texas last year until the middle of October and had great plots.

I haven’t planted this year again due to lack of rain.

You’re fine with Oct 1 if your not interested in bow hunting opening day.
I put wheat in a little over a week ago on this plot with damp soil and a rain after.

If folks don't want to graze cattle on their wheat, the second week of October is prime for grain purposes. It germinates in a week, deer will be on it in a week, I'd plant it.
