I got pulled over outside of Wichta Falls last year, at night, speeding. Had my loaded glock in the door pocket. As soon as LEO came up to the window I handed him my DL and told him I had weapon in the truck and asked if he needed to see it. He said 'nope' asked for my insurance and cut me a break by writing me just 10 over, told me to slow down and have a good evening.
Pulled over on SW119th, middle of the day, speeding 5 over. Had just bought a 642 and bringing it home. No bullets, still in the blue box in passger seat. LEO at window, hand my DL over inform him of the weapon. Out off the truck I go, hands on my tailgate, he then checks weapon. Writes ticket sends me on my way.
Even with some hassles I'd take a gun on a trip and always do.
