Passed this in Seward, NE today. Never seen anything like it...it's the only one along here so it's unique to this address. Almost like a road entry storage...but seems that's pretty awkward?

You can go back a few years before the retaining wall was added, used to have some sort of more official entry. Any guesses??

Drove past this in Seward, NE today. Almost looks like the entry to an underground garage, but too small. Too short to stand in also. It's the only one I've seen, it's unique to that house, not like something they did for the neighborhood.

You can look back in time on Maps and see they built that retaining wall around it, and it used to have a different entry almost like a bomb shelter would in the side of a hill...but this is right along the roar???

Door isn't big enough for garage. And weird it's along the street...how would you reastically get something out and to the house with that hill there if it was storage?

(Double posted thread on accident)

They could be access to storm drainage or other city services. Two of them are backed by strips of vegetation that look kind of unkempt relative to the surrounding yards, and one looks like it has a crypt roof like you'd see on a city services vault.

Or maybe they're old civil defense bunkers?

I'm going to take a wild guess. It is an emergency drain for the elevation behind the houses to prevent flooding. The doors open only when there is running water. I'm betting there is a large area that collects water and there is no drainage or it was detoured by construction.

I only say this because it sounds kind of like a weird service call I had in Greensburg, KS before the tornado. It seemed this resident had a garage that was installed on his property in a local flood plane. He had received notice from the city to open his garage doors to let the flooding water flow through.
My job was to install a system that opened the doors upon detection of water inside the garage.

It was an easy install with a few relays and two water bug sensors. I also installed a wireless remote as a backup to open and close the doors.

I thought he was pulling my leg but he showed me the letter from the city.

The guy was the chief mechanic for the hot laps for Jimmy Johnson. He gave me a bunch of JJ memorabilia and a T shirt.
