I think the PP/ PPK/ PPKs are excellent pistols, I also think that these are not beginner gun's, but firearms that need some expertise before jumping into one. It's a gun that needs to be understood before using.

A German PPK .380 was my only carry weapon for 15+ years. workmanship of the highest quality. it's still one of the easiest to conceal pistols available.

main drawback is weight and questionable ability to digest any and all defensive ammo. second drawback happens to be true for any auto pistol. at $30 per box for defensive ammo, not many will spend the $$$ to ensure reliable feed.

my CCW is a 340PD and PPK is now a safe queen, if that says anything.

CZ-83 is a better .380 in all respects. Slightly larger with more ammo and none of the snappyness that puts people off of PPK/s

I owned a first generation Bersa .380. It was accurate and as for the feeding reliability, it would feed fired cases, especially if they were sized first. To me that was the best .380 in the PPK class. Unfortunately the steel used in those was a bit on the soft side and the slide would peen the frame after many rounds fired. If they fixed that in later generations, I would not hesitate to recommend it, in fact I might even be tempted to buy one even though I don't need it, just for the fun of it.

It all depends on how sensitive your wife is to recoil. If your wife is like mine, she probably hates the recoil factor. If this is the case, you might want to look at the PPK; it's a bit heavier (this will help with the recoil). If your wife doesn't mind heavier recoil, put a Kahr in her hands and see how she likes to shoot that.

I prefer to rock the Kahr; it's accurate, small in size, not overly heavy, and comes in a variety of small bore calibers.

The question was "Whatcha think of the PPK?" Well, I think it's a heck of a fine pistol; mine runs like a fine swiss watch!
