Where to find lead?

Any pointers as to where to get some lead for a guy getting into casting? I have all the goodies coming to cast 45acp, including the 6 cavity mold from lee.

Seems like all the tire shops around here (Edmond area) either think I'm nuts for asking, or have someone that comes around regularly and cleans them out.

That's the way it is. Fishing sinkers or bullets, the tire shops around here are dedicated to a buddy. Used to go by the local newspaper and get linotype, but that's long gone.

Yeah, thats what I'm finding.

I called a metal recycling center in OKC, they want $2+ a lb for lead when they have it, but he didn't seem too excited to sell it either.

see if there are any plumbing friends that have any.
Old sewer pipe and shower pans and roof flashing or vent covers were lead.

The problem with wheel weights is more and more of them aren't lead anymore.
Here's an old honey hole I've had success with in the past.
Salvage yards.


And if all you can find is straight lead give me a holler. I can help you out with some tin/antimony.

an indoor range in edmond went out of business called Heartland. they are gonna have an auction. maybe they got a few buckets full. probably won't be too many interested.

Check with your dentist, they usually have to pay to properly recycle the lead from the xrays. They look like 1.5 by 1.5 squares and metal real fast when you go to reform them.
