I have shot them in many places with many different bullets.
My fastest kills are 55v-max or other quick expanding bullet to the neck.

Heart shots they run 90% of the time for me.

I have only done 1 head shot and it removed the top of the skull and the deer was still alive but could not move it's body just it's eyes.
So Sad.

I have shot many critters behind the ear in towards the skull and that drops them like a brick.

Texas heart shot.
I got lucky and got one with a running shot, but don’t recommend it.
The buck went down after being shot. As I walked up to it, the deer jumped up and stumbled across an open wheat field.
Sat down, got a good sight pic and pulled the trigger.
He went down with minimal meat loss.

Depends on angle, distance, rest, movement, temp, humidity, phase of moon, time of the month, ....

When things are perfect, neck shot. Not ideal, but good shot possible; heart lung.

I shot a doe, quartering away, with a 7mag, 140 gr HP. Hit left side, last rib, through heart, exited between right shoulder and base of neck. She ran 100 yards like it was a clean miss.

When I opened her up, chest was full of goo. Everything obliterated.

Never had a neck shot take a signal step.
