1st deer I tried a neck shot on dropped then he got his back end under him and off he went, pushing himself downhill. Obviously I didn’t hit him in the right spot, but dang, with a 30-06 at 60 yards I thought it was all over but the dragging, not even close.

I voted hit with car. It is the only way I have ever hit a deer. Really I should say he hit me as I was almost to a stop when he ran into my truck. Then the SOB got up and pranced off, jumped a fence and stood there looking at me for a minute before taking off into the brush.

I like the spot where the skull meets the neck, or if they are facing you, right where the adams apple would be. Hard to miss those spots, but a sure fire kill if you do hit. I came across a spike bull one morning running full tilt sidehill up about 30 degrees 4 hundred yards out, I put my crosshairs right on his nose and fired, thinking I'd be right in that sweet spot, but I missed, the bullet went a little high, understandable because of the elevation, but it also went to the rear, I guess I pulled it, it hit him right on top of the withers, dead before he hit the ground. I got the truck, backed it up till the tailgate touched the ground. and skidded the spike right into the bed, right beside the cow I killed earlier that morning. I thought hunting would be difficult, but as it turns out it's really not.

Texas Heart Shot not recommended!!!!! Tracked my sons buck a few years ago after a 1/4 mile in heavy cover.

Heart/lungs with 3006 .270 or .243 and never had to trail one very far

Don't need to be as picky with the rifles and bullet choice I use.

Archery doesn't have as much freedom. Behind the shoulder on perfect broadside.

The last 3 deer I have killed I have chosen a high neck shot. The bullets snapped the spine and they were DRT. Nothing to track. Normally, I have chosen the heart area but I have switched now.
