Because bobcats are wanton killers of quail and Pheasant. Quail being their favorite prey. We are having enough problem with predators in this day and time, since trapping is not paying anymore. I still trap, just for predator control.

Actually, with the modern ammo your not far off.
Manufactures have seen the light and are working on the 9/.40 rounds. FBI stats say that 10" penetration in ballistic gel is a standard. The .380 Hornady will now exceed that.
