Lasted about 10 seconds here as well (Charter Oak and Penn in southern Logan County). The Nemaha Fault runs nearly due north/south just west of Crescent.

PS: Heard rumbling on and off all morning prior to the quakes but didn't feel anything.

Operators of two oil and gas wastewater disposal wells shut them in while another well reduced its injection volume in the wake of earthquakes in the Crescent area, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission said Tuesday.

The actions came after a swarm of earthquakes hit the area in the last week, including quakes of magnitude 4.5 and 4.0 Monday.

Crescent is about 40 miles north of Oklahoma City.

The operators, Devon Energy Production Co. LP and Stephens Energy Group LLC, took the actions voluntarily, the commission said.

The three disposal wells are northeast of Crescent.

Stephens shut in its Chambers disposal well and reduced injected volumes 50 percent at its Cat in the Hat disposal well.

Devon shut in its Hopfer disposal well, which is about a mile east of Stephens’ Cat in the Hat well.

The companies either declined to comment or didn’t return calls Tuesday.

More than a dozen other disposal wells are within a 6-mile radius of the earthquakes near Crescent, according to commission data.

Those wells are under previous commission directives to either shut in or prove they aren’t injecting through the deep Arbuckle formation into the crystalline basement.

Several recent studies have linked injection wells that touch the basement to some of the recent earthquake activity in Oklahoma.

Stephens’ Chambers disposal well was added earlier this month to an updated list of wells under increased scrutiny from commission
