Here’s something for you future cataract candidates to ask about.

My wife had both of hers done last year, she went to a specialist. He saw her in his office but when it was time to do the surgery he did it in the hospital as outpatient surgery where he installed the new corrective lens’s with magnification, not sure magnification is the right wording.

When we asked why he did it at the hospital he told us that if he did it in his office then we would’ve had to pay for the upgraded corrective lens and if he did it in the hospital then the insurance would pay for it.

Private insurance or Medicare and supplement? 'Cause mine were done in the hospital, and he said they (Medicare and Plan F) still wouldn't pay for the'upgrades.'

Medicare and Plan-F only minimally cover vision problems,,,
I'm glad the Benefits Counselor at OSU talked me into the higher vision plan.

It was only $6.00 more per month than the basic plan,,,
My plan is still less than $20.00 per month.

Everyone should get their BP under control. For me I was on Lisinipril and my vision was bad, I switched to the "New" formula Valsartan. My BP came way down from like 170/150 to 128/86 and in the last 3 years the eye doctor has lowered my prescription 3 times. In 2020 he said I would need cataract surgery in 5 years, now he says it'll be a long way off. Hell, I was blind as a bat. now I don't need glasses for most stuff under 100 yards. Wear'em now mostly for protection as I'm always getting hit in the face.

Interesting. I'll have to check with my DR's on this.

Quiz your doctor carefully before the surgery. I have had both eyes done. He told me my distance vision would definitely improve (it did). He did NOT tell me my near vision would go to hell, but it did. I used to be able to read a newspaper or magazine with no glasses at all. Not anymore!!!!! I also have astigmatism in both eyes. He told me they could fix that for an extra $1K per eye, which medicare/insurance would not cover. He also told me they could correct my vision to 20/20 with no eyeglasses, again for another $1K per eye out of my pocket. Ask all the questions you can imagine before going forward with the surgery. I am definitely NOT 100% satisfied with my results. Best of luck!
Do you have myopia? Minus cylinder high? It sounds like that and if you had relatively thick lenses prior to surgery it would seemingly verify myopia. Just say'n.
