Southland shopping center spiffed up and became the present enclosed Prominad Mall just after the first half of Woodland Hills opened up to try to stay competitive.

The first section of Woodland hills was built in about 1973-74 can't remember, but I was an electrician on that project. If you did not bring your lunch you had to drive about 3 miles north to the closest burger place to get anything to eat. Who in their right mind would build a shopping center out in the country like this? They were geniuses.

Early in the project before the building was closed up we would have to chase the cows out after every rain storm to get back to work.

Speaking of ordering by phone, and also speaking of Southroads and Southland, who remembers Big Mike's hamburgers at Southland? They had delicious char-grilled burgers and you ordered from a phone at the table. They were also at the Tulsa State Fair for many years even after closing their permanent location. Maybe they had other locations in other cities.
BTW I can remember almost every place mentioned in this thread. I love Tulsa and Tulsa history.

BTW, for anyone who loves Tulsa history, you've got to spend an hour or three visiting the excellent website www.tulsatvmemories.com It is chock-full of photos and information about Tulsa history, especially TV and radio history, but other stuff as well. Don't forget to look at the guestbook pages as well. Some of the best information is on those pages.

Regarding Ma Bell's, this has really brought back memories. Memories that I literally did not know still existed in my mind. I grew up in Tulsa, born in '81. My parents would take my brother and me to Ma Bell's time and again. In my mind, I remember it being around 74th & South Memorial, but I was about 5 at the time, and I was familiar with that area because I knew that was where Woodland Hills Mall was (my "world" was much smaller than I know it to be now). I suppose it could have been anywhere. But, I remember the nostalgic feel to it. I remember it being a little dark in some areas, and I fondly remember the telephones. I imagine just about every restaurant at the time had a neon sign, but I seem to specifically remember a red neon sign that read "Ma Bells", in cursive? Anyone know if this actually existed, or is just a figment of my imagination?
When I think of Ma Bell's, I think of things like "The Outsiders", "Tex", Orange Julius, and those corn-dogs and cheese-dogs at the food-court at Woodland Hills Mall, and they had great lime-made's, too. And I remember flirting with the cute women that worked there (with those nerdy hats--I was five, give me a break).
Memory lane...those were tougher times for my family, but they make up some of the best memories I have of my life.

I didn't realize the date of this thread and seen a redmax post and thought WTH..

I don't remember if I posted this or not, but I remember Molly Murphy's. I remember ice in the urinals and cut up naked girl pics on the walls.. Good times as a teenager. My parents had to wonder why I went to the bathroom multiple times during dinner..

Shotgun Sam's
Frank's Country Inn
Casa Bonita (with the original owners - back in the 70's)
Casa Bonita started in OKC, went there many times when I was in college.
You're right about the Ma Bell's being on Admiral----I remember it was very similar to Bevo's in Edmond.
How many of you are old enough to remember "The Forge" restaurant, in the strip center just east of southroads just about where the Scottrade office is now? ---My wife still talks about their french onion soup, and the sandwiches.
What about Lum's? It was a sandwich place on South Sheridan, north of 51st street, west side of Sheridan.
Looboyle's was a great place to go at Southroad's, but how many of you are old enough to have gone to Looboyles back before that when it was on South Xanthus, just north of 11th street.
Or Oertle's, when it was still on 11th street between Utica and Lewis, before they moved to S. Memorial between 21st and 31st?
Or the original Pennington's Drive Inn?
Shakey's Pizza on East Admiral?
Cotton's Drive Inn on East Admiral?

Cotton's Drive Inn on East Admiral?

I remember Cotton's very well.. I was the overnite cook on Saturday nights for about a year back in the early 90's.. Still remember hand breading the onion rings and hand cutting the fries.. I also remember the two eggs, bacon, hash browns and a biscuit for 2.99.. I hated that special when the bar let out next door..
