So I almost made an impulse buy at the exchange today. They have a Remington 870 18" 12gauge with knoxx stock in the cabinet for $575. I need to pick one up for the police academy range time. I cam home and looked through Remington's site and found the Police version of the 870. Parkerized was the biggest difference I saw. Does anyone have first hand knowledge about the "tactical" versions of the 870 Express versus the Police models of the 870? Thanks!

I don't know about the difference between tac/HD models. What I do know is that that price seems high. The Knoxx stocks normally don't go for more than $100? And the 870 HD model is about $340 new.
Unless the 870 you are looking at had ghost rings or iron sights...that would raise the price a bit. I would do some shopping around.

Parked is the big difference. Some small parts are different too. I disagree with aip saying ghost rings will get you killed, but agree with most other stuff.

The biggest difference to me between the regular and Police 870 models is the receiver - it's a stamped unit in the regular, but milled out of a solid block of steel in the Police model: http://www.remingtonle.com/shotguns/870synthetic.htm. That alone is worth the extra $$ for the Police version. Check the link for all of the LE version shotguns; Remington makes some nice ones!

From what I have read, all 870s receiver are made out of a solid block.

Express Tactical should have the +2 mag extension, "breach" choke, and XS ghost rings. When I picked my Express Tactical up, it came with a regular Hogue stock for around 400.

I have the remington 870 express the receiver is not stamped its milled out of a solid block alloy. The 870 police has a steel trigger housing/guard where my 870 express is Polymer/plastic.
