Have a pretty cool gig. Sunday night, me and some friends were light fishing after church and we see this boat going across the lake with no lights. It stopped in the middle of the lake, and disappeared for a bit. We then noticed it was getting closer, must have been using a trolling motor. I was carrying and had my little tactical light in my pocket, and was about to illuminate the boat when it dawned on us who/what they were. I guess they use nightvision to see who all is fishing and such before they show up to ask for licenses. Either way, there were enough people partying on the lake (and probably drinking) to make me a bit leery. They were really cool guys though, thanked me for carrying, and went on their way after seeing all of our lifetime licenses. Looks like a fun job.

I like hearing responsible people's encounters with the game warden. I hear more negative stories than positive, but if you aren't doing anything wrong there is no reason for it to be. That is a tough job to have, rollin up on someone in the dark, like yourself, that might be packing. And they have no way to tell good guys from bad guys. That's cool that they thanked you for carrying. Sounded like good wardens doing a good job.

Game Wardens indeed work long hours almost always out numbered and out gunned in dangerous conditions with little or no fanfare.
I have been very critical of a few in particular the last couple of years, but the better I get to know them the more I grow to respect them.

It would also be a fun job. Like Carlos Hathcock often said "There is no hunting like the hunting of man". Could it be any better than hunting rednecks poaching?

Yes, they are. I was pulled over by asheriff deputy in Blaine Co last Saturday night. I had been helping on wheat harvest at Canton when at Southard i floated right thru a stop sign. I knew someone was behind me but I was tired. I turned the corner and lights came on. I informed him I was tired and I did not realize I had floated the sign. I further informed him I had a ccw license and my weapon was cased. He told me to be careful on that stretch of road because of deer colllisions and sent me home to bed. No ticket and no warning. I guess one priviledge of being gray headed. I have interacted with that deputy before and he cautioned me and sent me on my way.

Well I confess it was me, and yes I did thank him for excercising his 2nd amendment rights. And by the way you guys were the ONLY group we checked that night that wasnt breaking the law (that we know of) and thanks again for that.:clap3:

Thank you for being a positive role model for ODWC & LEO's in general.

Haha! well, as a guy who doesn't even have a single speeding ticket, I do my best to never cross the line knowingly. Seems to be working out well for me so far.

By the way, we heard a huge explosion later that night, quite a ways off, any idea what that was? it was far enough away that we didn't call it in, but close enough to hear a shockwave tearing through the sky...

Hey Jared, all of the OK Wardens I've meet do a great job...thank you. And I think you all have a great humor about you. Well, maybe one of my coworkers doesn't think so since a Wagoner Co. Warden gave him a ticket for shooting across a dirt road. Brandon's argument, "I did not shoot across the road I shot parallel to it..." The Wardens correct reply was that the shot would, theoretically, cross the road if it flew far enough. We all laughed so hard we almost fell down. Brandon just smiled and took his medicine. LOL
A fun day dove hunting for sure.
