Why haven't you tried some competitive shooting?

I'm one of the ones that just needs to get out and do it.

But the 3 Gun schedule / when I have the funds don't ever seem to jive.

I've gone to a couple small competitions, just not gotten hooked yet.

Man, I still miss it, even after this long. I've got one more RF at the end of this month and then maybe I can start shooting regularly again. GC nags at me to go with him when he shoots a match. Says nobody wants to talk to him except to see where I am ... lol It hard to explain to him just how depressing it is to go to a match and watch everybody else shoot though. I've done it a couple of times and then gone home and been really depressed. It's just better if I don't go until I can shoot again. If I can't ever shoot again, well ... I'll cross that bridge when I get there ... Of course Dee Nial and I are best friends ...

Believe me, nobody provides entertainment at matches like I produce.
If you think you shoot bad, come watch me, and you will gain all the confidence needed to get into your first match.

But guess what? I don't care. I can run my gun 3X faster than ever in the past, learned what it takes to make and keep it reliable, and should a situation ever develop, I have the confidence that I'm much better prepared mentally and physically to handle it.

Its amazing how much pressure that little beep from the shot timer can put on a shooter when it goes off.

I shot my first USPSA Match in Ponca last year. The first stage of my first match had a Polish Plate Rack, talk about stressful. My work schedule doesnt allow me to shoot matches much anymore but everyone needs to try it at least once. Even if you dont have the gear just show up and someone there will loan you what you need.

I can vouch for the "just show up" and someone will outfit you comments. GC and I went to a 3-gun several years ago. Just to see what the deal was. We didn't take any gear because we didn't plan on shooting. Just wanted to spectate.

Before I knew what was happening I had more guns and gear than any woman could ever ask for thrown at her! Seriously ... those guys were GREAT! I shot every single stage! Made a complete fool of myself (Remember, I'd not been shooting a pistol for a year yet. I bet I hadn't fired a shotgun a handful of times and I'd not fired a rifle but maybe once or twice.) but I had at BLAST!

You will not find a more helpful bunch of people than the folks at a shooting match. Any kind of shooting match. IDPA, USPSA, 3-Gun, Steel Challenge, Appleseed, I don't care what kind of shoot it is. I've NEVER been to any kind of shooting competition that the folks haven't been wonderful ...

(And yes, I know Appleseed Shoots aren't competitions but they deserve a mention here because those guys will offer you the guns off their backs too ...)

Go to a USPSA match. Pistol only is cheaper.

Or go to an IDPA match; the gear requirements are pretty low and you only shoot like 9 rounds per stage.

Also, even if you don't have "competitive" gear, you can still make do:

I'd like to point out that I did not come in last.
