I'm with you. I'm sure officers in the field have asked marines to do perform degrading tasks for their comfort than holding an umbrella.

Well, I don't know the circumstances of the first three, but Obama's press conference could have just as easily been held indoors. My issue wasn't with the Marine holding the umbrella as it was with Obama making everyone wait while it was raining and he was 45 minutes late.

Then again, I don't really mind the press getting wet. So, maybe I am torn after all.

Maybe a man, if he has two arms should hold his own umbrella. What is apparent, is that Marine does not want to stand too close to that obama character.

don't know if it matters but the last one is the only one at the White House that has a room that is for press conferences, Also I would bet at least the first three the person holding the umbrella has respect for the President he is holding it for. JMHO
