I may be taking a job where I will be traveling to Dallas every week or two. I am needing a new vehicle and was wondering about the gas mileage for these. Anyone have this or done research to see if the cost is worth it?

You are limited by infrastructure. Some insurance companies won't insure them if they are converted outside of the factory. It's not so much that they get better mileage, it's just CNG is cheaper. But you'll have to crank a ton of miles on it to see the savings after the initial cost.

Supposedly you get around 10% better milage. I've researched it and am going to convert my truck when I get a few things taken care of. It all depends on driven miles per year as to how fast you get pay back. There are income tax breaks from the state and a rebate from ONG if they are still in effect that will help. Longer service intervals and vehicle longevity factor in also. When I was researching it I really couldn't find a negative except for the cost of the conversion if you live in Oklahoma. Outside of OK is another matter due to lack of infrastructure but here you can find fuel most anywhere within your tanks range. A guy that I worked with went to CA about 3 or 4 years ago to buy a dedicated CNG Honda Accord (only place you could get one at the time), and he drove it to Dallas and back a lot.

Mine was a demo with 5k miles and got a great deal..............so it worked out that I got the CNG system for free by the time the deal was done. Bought it the first of March and turned 18k miles today, still liking it. Was spending about $650/month in diesel, now I spend only a third of that. Availability of CNG stations is a non issue.......Enid, Fairview, Tulsa, Bartlesville, Ponca City, Woodward, Weatherford, Wilburton, OKC, the list goes on, Texas is full of them too. Driving it to Chicago soon, CNG stations all the way up........could take two different routes with CNG stations available. Have a friend who drives a Civic from Enid to OKC everyday, wouldn't have it any other way.
