Also, my tax dollars were used to rainbow the white house. But are you this board that you start a thread just to see how many people you can call bigots when they give you their views? 'cuz that makes you a bigot at that point... and an ass.

First of all, I am, without a doubt an ass.

Now, if you think that crap of rainbowing up the WH was wasteful, imagine how non-Christians feel at Christmas.

My point of the thread was to find out if there are any legitimate reasons to not allow same sex marriages.

If it is 5% then there is approximately 16,000,000 in the U.S. It takes 2 to marry so 8,000,000 potential marriages. If only 50% of them marry we would currently have 4,000,000 gay-marriages. If say 30% of those end up in divorce. That would be 1,200,000 gay divorces. Average legal fees are approximately $15,000. (Some much lower and some much higher, depends on the situation, assets, and attorney hours required. Some as little as $400 others in the million.) So 1,200,000 divorces at $15,000 in legal fees leaves a pool of around $1.8 Billion in legal fees... Anyone want to go to law school with me? :)

To begin with, if you use the study referenced at http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...he-u-s-population-is-gay-lesbian-or-bisexual/, it's actually less than 3.5%

Secondly, how many lawyers would that be divided by?

Let's say that all 3.5% marry. Let's say they all get divorced. Maybe revenue increases by 3.5 %. Not a windfall.

Don't know what the first sentence has to do with anything or anybody mentioned here. Otherwise, I stand by my experience with this board. In all of the libertarian/conservative speak that goes on this board, nobody says a word about the government being involved in marriage until the subject of gay marriage comes up. In fact.... I'd wager a majority that are married..... have a license from the state.

I'll bet the majority obey most of the laws, most of the time. Maybe marriage hasn't been singled out as an issue, 'cuz no one gives it much thought, until some change is proposed. I haven't spoken out about the feds regulating refineries, either, but I'm still just as opposed to it. And I'll bet some liberty-minded folks are employed in the refineries! (gasp!)
So what's your point?

Using your example there would be an $8.35B pool but likely a good number will not get married and a good number will not get divorced.... Many lawyers will not see an increase in revenue, where others will be opportunistic, possibly specializing in gay divorce. So it may not be a "windfall" for every divorce attorney out there, but to think that a fresh multi-billion dollar revenue stream will not have an impact on a shrinking (divorce rate is declining) industry is asinine.

The hypocrisy should be obvious IMO. Some may be more universal in their libertarian beliefs or leanings, but it's quite obvious that an amount of naysayers are following a philosophy out of convenience to cover underlying prejudices.

Again.... I wonder what percentage of naysayers on this board and have a marriage license from the state?

if they have no other basis for for being anti-gay marriage other than the fact that God himself said it was an abomination. :thumb:

If they have no other basis, then that reasoning is invalid. We are not a theocracy. Religion has jack squat to do with policies of govt. and you wouldn't want it to anyways.

Well. if some of the pro-gay marriage folks are right, there will be a bunch added to the list soon. (since opposing gay marriage must mask homosexual tendencies.
I'm pretty sure those anti-Muslim folks have a Koran in their back pocket, also.
