Reports say neighbors in California remember the shooter and his mom carrying long cases they assume to be rifle cases in and out of their home. The shooter reportedly enjoyed "target shooting". Remember Adam Lanza? Another mentally unbalanced young man with a mother who thought it was a good idea to teach her troubled offspring how to shoot guns. Where do these women get the idea that it was a wonderful thing to expose their mentally unbalanced, socially inept young male sons to guns and shooting??? Common sense would seem to indicate that such people should be kept away from guns altogether. But common sense is as dead as fair play in this world.

Please point me to the celebratory funeral of a person killed with a shiv.
Dead is dead neighbor. More people are killed with hands and feet than with semi-automatic rifles. There is no perfectly safe this side of the grave. Best bet, buy a gun, get licensed, practice, practice, practice.

There is certainly nothing to celebrate at the death of anyone. But since you bring up the subject, if the perp had entered to school with a shank he'd not gotten nearly as far was he did.

I'll attempt to restate the intent of my original post. If a school (or other) wants to have a gun free zone then there should be a law requirng them to make sure it remains gun free and offer adequate protection to those who enter. If the school (or other) doesn't want to take on that responsibility then the gun free zone ceases to exist and the existing state laws concerning CC would be in effect.

If you disagree with my idea then that's fine.

and I understand but you need to place my comment in it's context. Yes, the world would be better off without some people but none the less, no matter who it is, there will be someone shedding tears at their passing.

The man who ran towards danger was Chris Mintz. He was shot 7 times and had 2 broken legs. From what the article says is he ran to the shooter and held the door (shut I'm guessing) while others escaped. His go fund me page is currently at $487k to pay for his medical and rehab.

If you are a college student or employee, consider this: You are in this all alone. It should be abundantly clear that neither the government nor your school administration is willing to do anything to protect you from this type of violence on campus. You alone are responsible for your own life and for securing the requirements for your survival. Is there anything that would physically prevent you from carrying while on campus, like metal detectors? What is the likelihood that you would ever be caught if you did carry, assuming you were careful to conceal? Which do you think is worse -- getting expelled/fired/prosecuted, or getting murdered?

Get armed. Get trained. Don't wait for anyone's permission to do what is necessary to protect your life.

Spot on sage advice.

Just heard of an Army vet who was wounded while "charging" the gun man. It will be interesting to get his story as he recovers.

Another vet, apparently, Air Force was armed on campus and headed to the area when he was stopped by college staff....hope the police were already on scene.

Saw the interview with the Air Force vet.
It's probably a good thing for him that he didn't go charging into the fray.

OSU has a police force, but if someone starts shooting on a university between classes or lunch or student union, there will be mass casualties. I don' t have a definitive answer, but carrying will be able to protect yourself and loved ones at least.

If a concealed carry permit holder were arrested for carrying on an Oklahoma college campus, it would be time to protest and agitate for jury nullification. It is common sense that if a person is ok to carry elsewhere, they should not be punished for carrying on a college campus. Citizens have the right to vote as they see fit when on a jury. And citizens have a right to pass out flyers outside a court educating people about the right to vote as they see fit while serving on a jury.

I hope that OSA would be all over this.

Someone needs to turn the tide of what is considered "common sense" in the other direction. We can all agree on what common sense is but the media controls what most believe. The solution to this is far more obvious than most will recognize.

They (gun banners) keep saying common sense over and over again but I don't think they have any idea what that means. These shootings never stop until people with guns show up and make it a two way range. The obvious answer is to get the two way range going sooner. Take the fun out of it for them and they will stop.
