I don't intend to hunt Elk, so I'm keeping my .243. If I do choose to hunt Elk, I'll get a bigger gun for that. But it's good to know that a .308 will do it all.

I can shoot pretty much anything up to deer just fine with .243, which is great for me since that's pretty much the extent of game in OK. It also outperforms the .308 at pretty much any distance for paper shooting, which I am much more likely to do. It's also very mild recoiling. And I like 6mm. :) Which makes it a great round for me.

I do not know what the future has in store for my grandson, but I do know I will buy his lifetime hunting and fishing license and build him a really nice versatile rifle to use.

A .243 is a GREAT caliber. my uncle shoots one when he goes deer hunting ( furthest kill hes gotten with is was 215 yards). it is also a GREAT caliber for varmint hunting.

I like browning rifles myself ( i grew up with a .270 browning my grandad gave me) but winchesters, savages, remingtons, and weatherbys are all great qualitty rifle manufacturers
