as mentioned before, the strength of the meds IMO was too much. i took some of the prescribed doses but thought i could do with less. WRONG!
went to 1/4 dose every 8 hrs rather than full dose every 4 hrs with no meds after 11pm. that was almost stupid, but i'm stubborn. when the pain came back at full throttle (3 am) i got what i deserve. had to play catch up but did it my way and not quite there yet. went to 1/4 dose every 4 hrs and hope to get back to tolerable (i can handle that) by bedtime.
not being tough, just seen people get on the oxy train and miss their stop. have come to the reality that i'm suppose to be off work (totally) for 4 weeks but that dog won't hunt. i've got work that needs my attention with a clear head.
just venting so pay no attention to this thread. ha :crying:

My dad did that when he had his shoulder replaced. He had a nerve block and was told to take his pills before he went to sleep as the block would wear off. He thought he was tough, didnt take the pills and the block wore off sometime in the night. later admitted that was "the most excruciating pain he'd ever had". He played catch up for a day of so.

I've had several surgeries in the last 5 years. First one I decided I was smarter than the Doc also, and didn't want to be an Oxy addict. Like you I found out how slow time goes when you are trying to catch up. I decided I will never do that again, ever.

So the subsequent surgeries I went full on for the first few days, then gradually pulled back during the day, but still took them at night. Then I pulled back the nighttime dose until I was off of them. Typically about 7 days total and I was done. I really don't understand how people get addicted to the Oxy, it makes me sleep, and it plugs me up. I like to sleep, but I do not like to be plugged up.... :)

i'm not that bright but like to be just a tad lucid, if possible.

Guess I'm pretty lucky. I have never need pain meds after the multiple times Ive been cut on, even for tooth extractions, never needed more than Tylenol after the Novocain wore off

My wife tripped over the drip that went under my knee about two hours after I got home from surgery. I thought it wasn't a big deal and as a tough guy I'd be fine. A couple hours later I realized it really "was" doing something... Ouch. My problem is that after a day or two the pain killer makes me itch worse than the pain. As such, I plan to not break any more ribs etc...UGH!!!

This. God, it is miserable. Ask your doctor if he will give you something else. My eye doctor gave me tylenol with codeine. It actually worked better for me than the Percocet I'd taken for YEARS, with none of the side effects of the Percocet. Like some others have said, I dunno how anyone becomes a prescription pill junkie. Guess I should count my blessings because if there was ever anyone who "should" have become an addict, it was me.

My shoulder wasn't nearly as messed up as yours but it hurt like a mofo. You have my sympathy. Hang tight, my man, it will get better.
