If that’s ok with you, would it be acceptable to you if I went on stage and closed the curtain on those actively knifing Trump to death?
Of course it wouldn’t, but your ok with canceling a pro Trump program because of some comments on the Internet. You see how your so wrong?

i'm guessing that'd be trespassing at that point... And you, as an audience member, don't have a say in whether the play continues or not. ABC, operating as a private company does, opted to cancel the show. Nothing about it silenced rosanne from making her personal feelings known. Just as canceling the offensive play wouldn't have silenced any of the actors from making their personal feelings know.

Do they have a right to their speech on national TV? When they do that they have a venue that you and I don't have. How is that equal? Some rights are more equal than others?

How is it that Joy and Whoopie on The View get to apologize 4 times a week for their antics but Roseanne and her entire cast and crew get fired?

who said it had to be 'equal'? and no, they don't have a right to their speech on national TV. Their owners can stop them (under terms they collectively bargained), the league could stop them (again, under terms agreed upon), the national networks could have refused to air the protests, etc. But, the players were more valuable to the owners and league than rosanne was to ABC. They faced less consequence from their private employer than rosanne did from hers.

You can make it about 'fairness' all you want but that isn't at issue here since we are talking about private groups and not government actions.

OK we agree on that. But your tenor makes it sound like you are totally OK with it being one sided. Most folks are fed up with the "one sided" nonsense. Carry on...

save for the part where i expressly said 'And if we are talking about shutting down free speech then can we please stop pretending it's a one way street. Yes, hollywood et al are great at it, but so is the right.'?

Or the part where i also said, 'I've made no excuses for either side. Both sides continue to do it and will in the future.'

it happens. it will happen again. I think there are those on both sides that will jump at every chance they can to show how the other side is limiting free speech.

And if we are going to split hairs about it, the difference in what was said does matter. Making a political statement (i.e. 'i disagree with the President' etc) is on a different level than making a pseudo racist statement (and yes, comparing people with african heritage, which i believe Jarrett has, to apes will always sound the racist bell).

did ABC shut down Rosanne's free speech?

I've made no excuses for either side. Both sides continue to do it and will in the future.
Effectively they did by canceling her show. Did the comedian at the National press conference get her netflix show canceled because of her caustic comments? No it didn't. They liberal left continues to consider the 1st amendment as their own to deal with as they please.
Did the stage show that knifed Trump get canceled, no it didn't.

Nope.

She's not in jail, not being fined. She has no right to use ABC's broadcasting facilities to spread her message. She's free to say whatever she wants; she's just not entitled to a platform for it.

Is ABC being biased? Sure--but it's their network. Ownership conveys certain privileges.
