We met several local farmers on this trip and every one of them hates those antelope. One of them said antelope to us here are like hogs to ya’ll back home.

Yea I’ve heard that before. Then when you ask if you can shoot one.....story suddenly changes.

Can’t say that’s the case in the panhandle but in Nebraska and South Dakota quite common.

It's the same way in the panhandle from what I've seen which is limited to very few landowners. Talked to a couple of land owners about their prairie rats as they call them, and when asked about hunting, the price tag came out.
Farming/ranching in the panhandle is tough. I don't blame them for looking at some extra bread money.

My friends that hunt the TX panhandle have a similar but maybe worse problem with getting permission to hunt mule deer. My friends got permission on a couple large tracts, and when they got out there to hunt, there was another hunter on one place who had also been given permission. The land owner had promised them a muley doe tag and ended up giving it to yet another hunter.

They were pretty disappointed, but they hadn’t paid anything and had nothing in writing.:anyone:

Bout what I figured. I have no problem with landowners charging an access/kill fee but don't curse them and then ask for money to hunt them in the same breath. Either they have worth OR they do not. When landowners do this I pretty much lose respect for them. In fact I'd like to tell them EXACTLY what they can do with their "prairie rats" that they want $XXX a piece for!

Honestly I love antelope and they get a horrible rap from the ranchers/farmers for not much reason at all. In Nebraska they are the #1 most complained about game species in the state (according to surveys) even though they cause little monetary damage to landowners crops/pasture/etc...

I refuse to pay for feral hog hunting for much the same reason. You want me to pay to shoot your problems? I hope those bastards turn over every parcel of ground you have and eat you out of house and home. I ain't giving you a plugged nickel to shoot a single one. Rant over. LOL
