At my place, does comes to feeders and bucks come to corn poured on the ground. The only reason I run any feeders at all is to keep the cost down. Dumped corn goes pretty quick.
I can't hardly get a deer to come to a feeder at my place. I put one up in a travel path in june, multiple does every morning and evening. They completely disappeared and never hit the feeder (plenty of browse at that time, I know) through october when I shut that feeder down. If we dumped corn on the ground, they'd flock in. With cattle and hogs though, it wasn't sustainable. Investing in t-posts and barbed wire for this next season. I can at least shoot the hogs.

If you wait until deer season to set it out the new smell will not go over well. My buddy does it that way and deer visit it at night most of the time.
I like to hunt as far away from a feeder as I can. Never did me any good.
At least my buddies feeders set out too late in the year.
I like to hunt about 100 miles away from his feeders unless you like crows and squirrels.
Mmm squirrel rolled in some rub and cooked in pressure until med doneness. Tender and juicy flavor. Grandma used to cook em for me was a lad.

I guess this needs to be said. Place your feeder where deer naturally like to be during daylight. In other words where you see them most. You may need to hunt a place first to get the best spots down.

As others have said. Just don’t throw one out and expect to be covered in deer.
Be knowledgeable of how you enter/exit the area also. You can't bust em outta bed to get to your stand too many times before they will find another shelter area.

I have never hunted over a feeder before. Just wandering where and how to set up feeder for next season on new hunting area.Lots of blackjack and lots of deer sign.

All the suggestions are valid, but can you give some more details about the property? Number of acres, terrain, water sources, how much of acreage is open...

320 acres, wooded hills, CRP between hills, 2 creeks, 3 ponds, maybe 1/4 semi open.
the last 3 yrs. I've been hunting a brushy draw with a small creek running through it between 2 hills. The grass is so tall you have to be
upon the hill side at tree line to see down in it. Tree line to draw 200 yrds. tree line to tree line across draw 350 yrds.
I've took 6 deer out of this set up over the last 3 yrs. the closest 197yrds. the farthest 309yrds. would like to get a little closer if possible.
I shoot a CVA hunter 7mm08 would like to get close enough for a bow. Thank You for all replies.

Sounds like a great place, and since you’ve been hunting it for 3 years, you should already be familiar with travel corridors and probably know the feeding and bedding areas.

My advice is to set up your feeder on or near a travel corridor between a feeding and bedding area as close to a tree line or some kind of cover as possible.
