Yes steel shot was ran through it.
And the barrel is not original to the gun it is a beautiful blued barrel with vent rib and threaded ID for different chokes.
Thing is not accurate at all compared to my other 12 gauge guns so I did it a favor and ran some bore rider slugs through it.

:) yep on purpose as I hate that newer barrel on a gun built in the 1920's.
So now I have a semi auto bore rider slug gun that does shoot very well.

I think the chamber shape the taper into the barrel makes a huge difference in accuracy probably much more than the last 3" of the barrel.

Ok so how hard is that steel choke tube?
You can do this maybe.
Take a hacksaw blade and slowly cut a notch into the choke you can cut multiple notches and this will relieve some of the pressure.
And if you go just right it may cut deep enough to allow some penetrant to seep into the threads in different areas.

Try not to cut all the way through as you will be cutting the barrel threads also.
