I like my Toro with the self-pace system; the more you push on the handle the faster it goes, it goes at your pace.
When they first told me about this feature I figured it was a gimmick that wouldn't last, but this is my second toro with this feature (tornado took the first one).
Works great.

My Honda has the speed control handle, best mower if have ever had.
Toro, you are taking a chance. Toro makes NOTHING. Put their name on the lowest bid, warranty is CRAP. You MIGHT get a decent product, you may not. Crap shoot.

Here, but occasionally There.
You won't get much help from me. I've not owned a mower since 2014 and haven't operated someone else's since 2017.

However, when we did own lawn equipment, I tended to buy from Smith Farm and Garden just west of NW 10th and Portland. I also have to agree that Honda is a good choice.

IMHO if I had a smaller yard, I would use electric exclusively. If you have a favorite brand of cordless tool they more than likely have a cordless lawnmower that uses the same batteries. Or you could get a matching set of yard tools that all use the same battery, ie. lawnmower, trimmer, edger, etc.
I like how most cordless lawnmowers fold up and can be stored on end to take up the least amount of storage space when not in use and don't have to worry about storing gas and oil.

Replaced my old (2010) Toro with a new one last year, self paced and starts on first-second pull every time, its the 21472 Walk Behind. Its a solid mower, but as said above they're engines are made by Briggs and Stratton.

Depends on the model. They use Briggs, Honda, Kohler and Kawasaki. I got screwed on one as the engine they used they quit making/supporting, so I could never get parts for it. That said, it wasnt the last toro I owned, just made sure it wasnt a motor that was more supported.

I am delivering a Honda to a fellow member today. Honda twin blade, 3in1, self propelled. Had not pushed a lawn mower in 37 years, used zero turns. But moved in a small place while building and this Honda was flawless and easy used. All the neighbors sported them. I lasted 10 months crammed to hell up, first time in life. Never again. Hondas are the ticket.

I mow about a 1/2 A. with a push mower that has a Honda engine atop it. Th Honda engine is the berries! The yard is nice and flat or I'd already be into a zero turn.
