Really weird how a thread about watches brings out a couple guys that need to cast characterizations about people that happen to wear a certain brand of watch. I've know hundreds of people that daily high-end brands of many things...cars, watches, knives, clothes, jewelry, purses, shoes, etc. It seems like there is always that insecure person lurking around to try and knock them down. I guess this forum is no different.

OSA is full of people that make characterizations of a subset of people of a group they don’t belong to. OSA isn’t any different than anywhere else as human nature still applies.

The only people I know wear Rolex’s have told me. Yes they are status symbol douche bags. It has nothing to do with the Rolex, as those people are the same about everything. I’m sure I know many more people that wear them, but since they aren’t status symbol d bags… and I don’t notice watches unless you tell me…
See this watch? It cost more than you made last year! I drink coffee because I’m a closer and I’ve got the Glengarry leads.

I’m an everyday Rolex wearer and I’m so far beyond the average conceited douche bag y’all are referencing that it’s scary. Guess what? I really don’t care. I wear that watch to let people know they’re not going to outwork me. Out negotiate me. Out sell me. Basically, all I do is win. It’s just who I am. But isn’t it the same as entering your initials for a new high score on a pinball? Having your name on a plaque for most clays broken or employee of the month? We hand out trophies for winning. A high end watch is a life trophy.

I'm not going to dwell on this any further after this post, but I'm going to address it since I'm likely one of the individuals that you're referencing. I've met you and wouldn't have characterized you in that way.

Regardless, dismissing someone's personal reason for not wearing a particular brand of luxury watch as jealousy or insecurity is pretty spot on for the behavior that I've been referencing. I gave my specific reasons for not wanting to daily wear something with Rolex branding. All of that was based on public perception and my occupation. No one ever inferred anything negative about daily wearing luxury items. The arrogance in bragging to everyone about what you're wearing is the issue.

None of my comments were directed at you or any other Rolex owner on OSA. I was only sharing my personal experiences/ observations/ perceived public perception of a subset of Rolex owners (versus other luxury watch owners) and why I would prefer to wear other brands.

Watch? I was talking to a lady friend of mine last night and she told me today was Sunday. I thought it was Wednesday???? I'm going to take the band off my Timex and put a military band on it. I can't stand a watchband on my wrist or a ring either for that matter. I only use a watch to time the deer on my deer stand. It's really the only thing I have ever used one for. I have an Omega Seamaster a friend gave me several years ago but I have never worn it.

So, here we go with the official OSA watch thread. I’ll start it off. My everyday wear-late 80’s 36mm Rolex Datejust. Simple, subtle, timeless.
I carry mine, not really wearing it.
1942 Hamilton 4992b Master Navigator. Gifted to me by the B-17 Navigator to whom it was issued in WWII. Was carried throughout the Pacific Theater from its date of issue through the end of the war, including being shot down, spending 16 days in a lift raft, and 54 days stranded on Baku Island off New Guinea.

Still keeps time as accurately as when it was issued.

I wore a white face Rolex Explorer II almost every day for a decade. Had it completely refinished by Rolex and gave it to my son when he graduated high school.

He still has it and it’s still a beautiful time piece. I’ll probably get another Explorer one of these days. Interestingly most people had no idea it was a Rolex.

Watch people know watches. Gun people know guns. If you know, you know. The rest are just posers.

Now, the real deal were those 1980’s Rolex Presidents with the nugget bracelet! Those were the mark of a real watch guy! 😆View attachment 345785
It might well be the be-all and end-all of something, but someone beat that thing with an ugly stick!
