I was waiting for the game to start moving and looked at myself and realized how lazy of a hunter I am.

I wear the same thing I wear everyday (only add a remington ballcap with blaze orange stocking hat over it to stay legal and a blaze orange vest). I drag an old folding chair out to my usual spot. I clip on one acorn scent mask wafer, and a few squirts of scent lock on my boots and pants.

I always go out with the only expectation of enjoying God's creation. If I see a blue herring or some calves playing, I consider myself lucky. However, I fill my tags every year.

This isnt a post about about how you dont need all that fancy hunting gear, just a realization that I hunt to be outdoors and get closer to God. Getting a deer is just a bonus.

this is the reason I save most of my vacation for deer season. I'm lucky in that I work long hours during the week, but they result in lots of time off as our schedule give us a 3 day, and a five day weekend once a month, so if they fall right like they did this year, I can get 12 days off and have to burn three days of vacation. I hunt every day, daylight to dark, with exception of Thanksgiving where time is spent with family. My wife understood this 21 years ago before we got married. Started to get a pre-nup with that stated, but she said she understood:D
Its the time of year when I can sit and contemplate, and then solve most of the worlds problems, and some of my own. Be out again in the morning bright and early, enjoying the world waking up for another day:D:D

I am enjoying my time out with God too. Sittin in the deer stand listening to the neighbors shooting a lot of pistol ammo right now. Sounds like they have shot a few hundrd rds in the last hour. Saw a good flock of turkeys when I came in but no deer yet. Got the old garand with me tonight.

This morning was one of the most peaceful times I've had in awhile. Sky full of stars, no city noise. Saw a couple of deer but didn't have a good shot. Still had a wonderful time!

Took my boy out for the first time today. He's 6, and is still in the process of graduating from his BB gun. So we loaded up about noon, went out in the warm part of the day, and he actually sat still for over an hour without hardly talking or moving at all. Carried his own "rifle: and jerky without covering me or anyone else with his muzzle the whole time. I was so proud of him. After an hour, I asked if he wanted to do some shooting, and he did. So we blasted some cans with the Red Ryder and headed home. He is thrilled to have gone hunting with me, and I am super proud. Looks like there's a Rossi trifecta in his Christmas future. He got to see some sign, and we had an awesome day in the woods together. HE couldn't believe it was so quiet...and I couldn't believe he appreciated it. This is the good stuff.

Even though I camo out and scent block up, what you said is so true. Especially for me since I exclusively hunt pub. land.

I haven't shot at a deer in anger in 2 years (rifle).

I won a rossi trifecta a couple of years ago and gave it to my oldest grandson. Your son sounds like he will get into deer hunting.:D
