The purpose of them is to put more pressure back into short barreled guns to help with reliability. There's no reason to have one on a 16" barrel.
I have one on my 16in ar and love mine.

Well, they'll "work" on a 26" barreled .220 Swift, doesn't mean that's what its made for.
