$1 difference between carhat cargos and 5.11 cargos according to each company's website. 5.11's have 7 pockets, reinforced/double knees and seat along with elastic waistband and reinforced sturdier belt loops for gun belts/gear. Much more comfortable when used across a broad spectrum of uses, like living off what you carry and layering for weather etc. I don't live out of my pockets for days now, so I only have one pair around for occasional use.

Some folks buy 'em to look tacticool, others buy 'em because they fit a need. The first doesn't invalidate the second.

I have the 5.11's, they're good. But the Blackhawks are better. More hidden pockets, more subtle appearance, better made.

Vertex has a sale on their AirFlow pants, don't have any but thought about grabbing some. Don't have Blackhawk pants but I have their boots and they have held up well and are comfortable. Also have some of their button up short sleeve shirts with padded shoulder for shooting but they are a little big so I never wear them. Actually, I might sell them if anyone is interested. My wife would be happy to have to space back.

The tactical clothing lines might be useful and tough, especially if you need all those pockects and are in an urban setting.
In real world use, it's hard to beat a pair of thick Carhartts or Wranglers. When I am going to to in brush, especially where there are blackberries/thorns, no way I would wear thin tactical pants. The pockets are nice but I have found that if you fill up those pockets it ends up hindering movement and you have to be concerned with stuff falling out and bouncing around while running. I would much rather have a backpack that is secured with straps in the front or even a fanny pack lol. Not to mention I have seen people have the same Carharts for long time through hard use and they are still going strong.

My .02 cents. I really try to put my stuff through hard use so if we ever get any SHTF situation I can limit the amount of equipment failures/inadequaticies that are bound to happen.

I agree on some points, I've worn Walmart Dickies in the field more than once, but comparing thick Carhartts to lightweight tactical pants is apples to oranges. Most of those specific built pants brands also have heavy or normal weight pants that are just as thick or even thicker than Carhartts.

Someone also brought up the made in USA angle, but you have to watch it there too...I've got a nice TAD Gear sharkskin Stealth Hoodie jacket that clearly says made in China.

The reason I am asking is because I am hard on pants plus I like the waist set up on the 5.11s. I really do not care about the pockets, etc. Mainly are they comfortable and wear well. On a side note, if I could find some knee pads to wear in the 5.11s that did not stick out or look bad, my knees would be most grateful as often as my legs decide to dump me. I am to damn old to have skinned knees all the time.

As far as Made in America, I will pay 10 to 25% more for USA made products if the quality is better than overseas made but I am not paying twice the price to support some union boss in the style he thinks he deserves.
