We have had four eggs in the past week that were bigger than normal. Come to find out they were all double yolks. That makes a total of 6 double yolk eggs we have gotten since they started laying a month or so ago.
True...My son hasn't lost a chicken to a hawk since he got a rooster.He said the rooster sends a warning call to the chickens.
I would rather lose a hen or two to predators than deal with a rooster.

2 Pullets started laying today. Brought them home on Feb. 15, so they're right around 22 weeks.
1st was a Delaware, about 2/3 normal sized egg. Normal size pink ceramic egg for scale.
I'm not sure who layed 2nd, narrowed it down to 2 chickens, a Red Sex link and a mutt that I hatched. It was a double-yolker.

I seem to have outdone myself. Between the chickens, the ducks and the quail I am covered up with eggs. 
The dogs think the quail eggs are a treat and eat the whole -- shell and all. I have one duck that is throwing double-yokers every time she lays but I can't figure out which one it is.
Anyhooo, I seriously need to get that incubator in my Wish List on Amazon and start hatching quail. They are really good eating. And I need to butcher some ducks. I really have about 6 more than I need.
