Ive got several 22lr guns and love them for plinking and squirrels, shoot a marlin 925 bolt action in 22mag recently started shooting hornady 30gr vmax rounds in it , they are fast and flat.
ive got a marlin 882ss in 22 mag and i love it. its a 7 round magazine bolt action. anytime i go down to the creek to shoot snakes or squirrels i take this gun. its got enough power to kill a coyote as well. the cci hollow points at walmart are about $12 for box of 50. sometimes they have the remington accutip or somethin like that, and they are very accurate rounds but cost a little more. never get the winchester white box ammo for the 22mag! that crap is cheaper but very very inaccurate.
I'm a really big fan of the 22lr If i need something for longer ranges i shoot a 223, handloading it's not much more $ than shooting 22mag.
