So I read on the internet that you can use salt water to remove cosmoline. I figured I'd give it a try but now I'm afraid it's gone horribly wrong. Should I dunk my rifle in motor oil to save it?

I still think I can save it, because I still read the markings. Oil bath?

I'm hoping I can still save this old rifle as I was hoping to make it my 1000 yd rifle.

Did you use the proper 91:30 mixture that was suggested?

I do like that well-patinated look you accomplished...beats the hell out of color case hardening any day.
