Yeah, about the only way to get out of that is if you are dishonorably discharged, medically discharged, way too old/unfit to do anything, or dead. Once you sign on the dotted line they should honestly tattoo "Property of Uncle Sam" as a tramp stamp on you.
You can resign, but you would be giving up your retirement
They could put you in charge of the complaints division.

When I got out I told them I'm never going back in, no matter what. Inactive called up, knock on the door with MPs, whatever.

They pretty much told me they didn't want me back anyway, and would be unlikely to come looking for me.

See, me and the military have this understanding....

Funny...I had this one recalcitrant PFC one time who really didn't want to deploy, so the night before, he shaved his head and had "NOT FOR EMBARK" tattooed on the back of his head. I told him to get his gear and get on the damn boat.
He would have been nicknamed FOD if he was in my platoon. I'd have him outside mopping in the rain.
