I use an Ooma Telo. Phone bill is ~$3 a month and that's just tax. Free long distance and we paid to have to have the number ported from AT&T.

K, so Cox finally rolled out DOCSIS 3 to OKC. Last night, I'm getting around 15 Mbps downstream. A new modem and a phone call later, I'm getting 73Mbps down, with no additional money going to Cox each month.
Are you actually able to pull that much or is that just what the speed tests tell you?

I agree with the title of the thread. Yesterday I went to best buy and picked up a motorola DOCSIS 3 modem and called cox for setup once I had hooked it up. My speeds have doubled according to speed test and my real world downloading (mostly itunes with some torrents mixed in) has gotten considerably faster.
Left Cox and went to AT&T. I had WAY to many problems with COX. Internet always shutting down and they were screwing my bill up 3 out of 5 months, always trying to charge me more. Been with AT&T for a year now, NO PROBLEMS and the internet is Fine.
Cox offers the Cisco modem for $80 but I opted for the Motorola from Best Buy for $99 because 1.) I'm partial to Motorola's modems, and 2.) I had a $35 dollar store credit to blow at Best Buy anyway.
I think you can find the motorolas online for cheaper.
I wish my Dad would upgrade to cable, Windstream DSL is so slow.
