Well, you guys did it... I'm going to get a Glock. Looking at a G23 and 27, can't decide.

Already carry a Shield and a SW 637, looking to replace one or maybe both down the road. Which should I pick first? Change out the Shield for a G23 on the belt or the jframe for the 27 on the ankle? Would you even carry a 27 on the belt?

When you start getting on in years (like me) ounces become pounds.

Pachmayr/A&G makes a little plastic sleeve that fits over full size and compact Glock mags. You can install one of those on a Glock 22 or 23 mag and it will make that G27 feel like a G22 or G23 in the hand, whichever you choose. It cuts down on the weight a little bit.

But hell, what do I know? :ugh2: Lately, I've ditched my G22 and been totin' a Glock 43 on the hip.

My body thanked me. :bighug:

My shield is kinda the same way. I noticed that when it has the 8rd mag it's the same height exactly as a G23 but with a shorter slide length, but it's not been a problem carrying it. Never actually carried a gun with more than a 10 round mag, so I'm not sure how much extra weight I'll feel with an extra 3 or so. Carried my Makarov a few times and that things feels so damn heavy, so you might be on to something. Definitely need to give it some thought.

I carry a G23 with the grip chopped to a 27 length daily. I have a spare 23 sized Lone Wolf frame but I never carry it with that frame. Just added weight. If rails are important to you the 27 does not have any but the 23 does.

I switch off and on during the cold months between my G19 & G23, Love them both but like Glock'em Down, I tend to carry my g43 in the warmer months.

am carrying the 29 more and more though. I love that 10mm round and I can get back on target pretty quick with it. Actually, my favorite is the Gen 4 19. No; wait...the 29. But I really love the 43 so maybe that one ... dang. Sorry, I am of little help. I’m just not a 40 fan, and can’t imagine ankle carrying anything, much less the brick like 27. I say get a 19 first. I believe that is the most popular Glock for carry. You can’t go wrong with it. Then, if you want a smaller one, you have the 26 and 43. If you want serious horsepower, the Gen 4 Glock 29 with Underwood 180 gr BJHP puts about 680 ft lbs of whoop zzz outta the muzzle end. That’s close to double the output of the 19 and similar 9mm pistols. If you really want nuclear, look at Underwood’s 135 gr super speed rounds for about 760 ft lbs. Although I don’t have one, (right now) I also consider the Gen 4 26 a solid choice as well. If you are near Yukon, you’re welcome to shoot my three by the way if that helps you. Anyway, good luck deciding.

Ended up going with the 27 since I figured I could slap in a 23 mag with a sleeve to get a full grip on the reload. Was *this* close to picking up the 23 instead, but the 27 seemed like more bang for my buck. Time will tell if I done goofed, though. Nice pics btw.

I actually wanted to get a 19 originally, but my buddy at work pointed out that all my guns are in 9 except my revolver. Figured it was time to get something with a little more oomph.

Never tried an ankle holster? I've been carrying my 637 in a Galco Ankle Glove for going on two years now and it doesn't hurt your feet or anything. It's easier to strap on if you're running late out the door than a belt holster and much easier to reach while seated. Give it a try sometime, but I'd really recommend the Galco. It's about a hundred bucks, but well worth it especially considering how uncomfortable cheaper options are.

I'll definitely hit you up if I'm ever around Yukon, but I'm rarely down that way. Two jobs and family keep me rooted in Stilly.

The choice was yours, and if you’re happy with the 27, and like the mag sleeve, then groovy. Stay safe brother.
