OK boys and girls,

I figured I'd pass this on to everyone again this year.

This year's OKMOM (Oklahoma Mission of Mercy) will be taking place in Durant, Oklahoma on Feb 2 and 3, 2018

https://www.facebook.com/oklahomamissionofmercy/?fref=nf

http://www.okmom.org/

Each year for the past 8 years (this will be #9), the Dental community of Oklahoma put on a 2 day event where we offer free (yes, FREE) dental care to anyone who shows up.

This is in No cost at all. There are no qualifications. We try to see everyone who shows up.

I have done four of them so far.

I will be at the Durant in the Oral Surgery bays.

Usually, we treat upwards of 1500 to 1800 patients during the two day event. This is an amazing event. Dentist, Dental Hygienists, Assistants, Receptionists, basically anyone who wants to volunteer will be giving their time during this two day event.

Things I want to stress:

This is FREE to people who show up.
Free.
No Dinero.
No Money needed.

There are no income qualifications or requirements.
Most areas of dentistry will be provided (except Orthodontics).

Everything from basic cleanings to complex Extractions (Oral Surgery).
Fillings, limited root canals, cleanings, xrays, extractions, limited partial dentures.

And did I mention that it is free?

And something to know about the people involved, they are ALL volunteers.

So, pass this on to anyone that you know that might be in need.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

And if you are interested in volunteering, I'm sure that there is information on the website. You don't have to be a dentist or dental staffer. We can use all the help we can get. Setup, breakdown, administration, translators, etc.

This is a great thing you're doing, I wish i had the skills to give back to the community in the ways that you have/are. I think a lot of folks underestimate the importance of such care to general quality of health and well-being. I once had an infection in one of the teeth in the upper part of my jaw that could have killed me because i waited to get checked up, and i ended up needing 2 teeth extracted. definitely not something to wait on.

I personally know someone your group helped in Enid a couple of years ago. He went from being embarrassed to smile to being very proud and happy to smile. I'd thought the black all on his teeth was them rotting out but it was just buildup. I was completely shocked at the difference. You all are doing a wonderful thing.

There are no special skills that are required for this event. People are needed to help set up equipment, chairs, tubes, pipes, electrical chords. And people are needed to break it down and put it back in the Semis. Folks are needed to escort patients to and from treatment areas, translate different languages, put out food and water, write up some records, etc.

I have personally seen guys that were worth "big bucks" hauling trash cans as part of this event just so they could participate.

This is very good of you ratski.I worked with a guy we called white trash chuck who had nasty black teeth. Most people couldn't even look at him for too long because of his nasty teeth. He finally got them pulled and the hygienist told me they through away all the tools that they used on him.And yes, he lived in a trailer park.
