German Shepherd - Police Narcotics Dog Needs Home ASAP

I am passing this message along from a member of the Lawton, OK Humane Society:

- They have a German Shepherd, former Police Narcotics Dog that needs a home ASAP
The dog has been in shelter since Dec 8th and now has one week until it will be euthanized by animal control

Wow, hope it gets a good home soon. Seems like there'd be lots of interest in a trained drug dog, even if it was past it's prime.

Wow, can't believe a department is letting this happen. Typically I thought that dogs were treated very well and made sure they were taken care of. I've never known a department to allow a dog that worked for them to be put down unless it was sick or otherwise needed it. Most of the time they live out their lives in a home that has been found for them by a member of the department. What department used this dog?
